John Ji is a South Korean baritone based between London and Germany. He has performed a broad repertoire across leading German opera houses and internationally, including engagements with Staatstheater Cottbus, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Landestheater Niederbayern, Korea National Opera and Longborough Festival Opera.

His recent repertoire includes Marcello in La Bohème, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Ottokar in Der Freischütz, Anthony Hope in Sweeney Todd, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte and Mammon in Jedermann. His 2027 engagement at Longborough Festival Opera includes Marcello in Puccini’s La Bohème.

John Ji trained at Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg, where he completed his Master of Music and subsequently a Meisterklasse, following his earlier studies at Seoul National University, where he obtained both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees. He was also a Resident Artist at The Georg Solti Accademia di Bel Canto, receiving advanced training in the Italian bel canto tradition.

His artistic development has been shaped by studies with KS Caren van Oijen, Bruno Balmelli, Carlo Colombara, Donatella Debolini, Susanne Kelling and Se-won Park, alongside masterclasses with internationally renowned artists including KS Edda Moser, KS Brigitte Fassbaender, Sir Richard Bonynge, Dalton Baldwin, Roberto Frontali, Barbara Frittoli and Jonathan Papp.

A prizewinner at numerous international competitions, John Ji has received the Gustav Mahler Prize, the DAAD Prize for Foreign Students and a Bayreuth Scholarship, and was selected as 1st Reserve for the 2023 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.
